Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods LLC today announced that, out of an abundance of caution, it is voluntarily recalling specific production lots of Gingerbread Man Cookies that may contain an undeclared milk allergen. These affected products are produced at the company’s plant in Richmond, Virginia and are sold through MARTIN’S Foods retail grocery stores in Richmond and Williamsburg, Virginia. There have been no known reports of illness associated with the use of this product.
The only affected products are those labeled with the Gingerbread Man (2oz.) product name and a sell-by date between 11/8/12 and 12/16/12. This product name and sell-by date is found on the front of each package. Products that carry any other names and sell-by dates are not affected by this recall.
The presence of an ingredient containing milk in a food product may cause an allergic reaction in people with milk allergies or intolerance to milk.
In this instance the milk may have been present in the icing used to secure the bottom of the cookie to the package.
“The safety of our customers who eat our products is our first priority, and this is why we are voluntarily taking this precautionary measure,” said Mr. Robert S. Ukrop, President of Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods.
The company advises consumers who have allergies to milk to return affected product to the point of purchase.
Consumers with questions about the recall or the product involved may contact Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods, LLC at (804)340-3000. Instructions will be provided on how to determine whether consumers have affected products and, if so, what to do with the recalled product.
