All brides seem to be including something on the reception menu these days that wasn’t always seen: The groom’s cake. But actually this tradition isn’t new at all—it dates back to the 17th century!

Ukrop's Homestyle Foods bakes up thousands of cakes each year for lucky Richmond brides and grooms, like the groom’s cake shown above.
Historically it has been a rich dark fruit cake or was made to match the traditional “bride’s” or was even made to be the very top layer of the bridal cake, “drenched in brandy to preserve it for the celebration of the couple’s first wedding anniversary.” Neat!
